Champagne Gifts
Giving someone champagne is always a good idea and it is quite simple because it is a universal gift, so if you’re not sure what the person you want to surprise is into, champagne is quite guaranteed to put a smile on someone’s face. If you don’t know the person that well yet or if it’s someone you aren’t that close to but need to give something to for the sake of formality, then champagne is a good way to go. However, you don’t want to seem cheap, so make sure your champagne is of good quality and of a classy brand.
Firstly, you want to make sure your bottle comes from a reputable champagne house. Very well-known ones include Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Moët & Chandon and Perrier – Jouët, but these are just examples. Also, you may want to go for a “cuvée de prestige”, a champagne that is considered to be the very best a given producer’s range has to offer. While you’re at it, why don’t you go for the original prestige cuvée, Moët & Chandon’s Dom Pérignon, launched in 1936. It’s quite hard to find anything classier than that.
The right type of champagne
When you decide which type of champagne to give, you don’t want to go wrong, so observe what the person you want to give the champagne to usually drinks, or ask someone. Whoever is getting the gift will be pleased twice as much if, in addition to being nice classy champagne, it is their favourite type, too! In fact, there are a variety of types of champagne and they all have their individual taste. The first distinction to make is between vintage and non-vintage champagne. Vintage champagne can only be produced if the conditions of a certain year are very favourable and at least 85% of vintage champagne must be made of the grapes of that year only.
Non-vintage champagne, on the other hand, is made of a blend of grapes from different years. Then, you can distinguish between “blanc de noirs”, a champagne produced only from black grapes, “blanc de blancs”, a champagne produced only from Chardonnay grapes, and “rosé champagne”, produced so that the liquid has as little contact with the skin of the grapes as possible, giving it its light color that sets it apart from red wine. Finally, champagne can contain different amounts of sugar, ranging from “brut naturel” with less than three grams of sugar per litre to “doux” with more than fifty grams of sugar per litre.
The most common champagne is “brut”, which has between six and fifteen grams of sugar per litre. All of these characteristics vary from champagne to champagne and give every kind of champagne its individual taste. Find out what the person you want to surprise likes best and they will be even more grateful!
